ABOUT

I am a PhD student based at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (NOCS). I work within the microbial plankton subgroup of the Ocean Biogeochemistry and Ecosystems research group. I am studying the adaptations of dinoflagellates (Ceratium spp.) to low nutrient concentrations in oligotrophic subtropical gyres. My supervisors are Professor Mikhail Zubkov, Dr Duncan Purdie and Dr Adrian Martin.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

  • Phytoplankton Ecology
  • Marine Microbial Biology
  • Calcification/Ocean Acidification

RESEARCH TECHNIQUES

  • Algal culture and maintenance
  • Microscopy (inverted, dissecting, and epifluoresence)
  • Fluorometric chlorophyll analysis
  • Fast repetition rate fluorometry (FRRf)
  • Flow Cytometry and FloCam Cytometry
  • Protein Quantification

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MScii Marine biology (First Class honours) – University of Southampton (2006-2010)
